FlatStock vs Sortly
A straight comparison, including the parts where Sortly wins. Sortly's prices, limits and features below were read from sortly.com/pricing on 15 September 2026. We make FlatStock, so read this knowing that, and check the Sortly numbers against their page yourself.
The short version: Sortly does more, and charges by tier for it. FlatStock does less, on one plan whose price does not change after the first year.
What you pay, and what you get for it
| Plan | Year one | After year one | Items | Users |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sortly Free | $0 | $0 | 100 | 1 |
| Sortly Advanced | $288 | ~$470, computed | 500 | 2 |
| Sortly Ultra | $888 | ~$1,430, computed | 2,000 | 5 |
| Sortly Premium | $1,788 | ~$2,870, computed | 5,000 | 8 |
| Sortly Enterprise | Quote | Quote | 10,000+ | 12+ |
| FlatStock | $199 | $199 | 10,000 | One shared login, any number of devices |
Sortly's yearly prices carry a first-year discount. Their pricing page says: "50% discount applies only to first year of new customer subscriptions. After the first year, a 20% discount applies to all yearly plans." The after-year-one column is their standard monthly rate times twelve, less that 20%. It is computed from their terms, not read off an invoice. The arithmetic is shown in full here.
To be fair to them: their FAQ says they have adjusted plan prices once in the past six years. The jump after year one is not a price rise. It is the introductory discount ending, on terms they publish.
FlatStock is $24.99 a month or $199 a year, and there is no other plan. The 10,000 item ceiling is real, and stated up front rather than called unlimited.
Where Sortly is ahead
This part matters more than the table above. If you need any of these today, Sortly is the better choice and FlatStock is not going to be.
| Feature | Sortly | FlatStock |
|---|---|---|
| Purchase orders | From Ultra | No |
| QuickBooks Online | From Premium | No |
| API and webhooks | Enterprise | No |
| A login per person, with role permissions | User licences on every plan, custom roles from Premium | No. One shared login, so changes are not tied to a person |
| Reports | Their plan table lists activity history, inventory summary, low stock, move summary and item flow reports, with saved reports and report subscriptions | A list of what is running low, and a full CSV export. No report builder |
| Android app | Yes | Yes, on Google Play since 2026-09-18 |
| Slack, Microsoft Teams, pick lists, Amazon Business, SSO | From Ultra, SSO at Enterprise | No |
| Track record | Years of customers and reviews | New, and in early access |
FlatStock leaves these out on purpose. They are the features that push an inventory tool into a pricing ladder, and one plan is the point.
Where FlatStock is different
- The price does not move. $199 is the price in year one and the price in year five.
- Items are not the tier gate. 10,000 items on the one plan. On Sortly, 500 items is Advanced, and 10,000 is Enterprise, priced by quote.
- No seat count. The whole team uses one login on as many phones and computers as it likes. The trade is the one in the table above: no per-person accounts. Who has a tool is a name typed into the check-out record, not an identity.
- Leaving stays easy. If the subscription lapses, the account becomes read-only and full CSV export stays free. Always.
- It reads Sortly's bulk export directly. Folders, custom fields, barcodes and photos come across. You see what will import before anything is written, and the photos are copied off Sortly's servers in the background. What the Sortly export contains, column by column.
What both do
Some things people expect to be a difference are not. Both work offline on a phone and sync later. Both scan barcodes and QR codes in the app, keep photos on items, track check-in and check-out, and alert on low stock and on dates. On Sortly, check-out and low stock alerts start at Advanced and date alerts at Ultra; on FlatStock they are on the one plan. Both offer a 14-day free trial, and both require a card to start it: Sortly's FAQ says "A credit card is required to start a trial.", and ours takes one too, with nothing charged until day 15.
Which one to pick
Pick Sortly if you need purchase orders, QuickBooks, an API or per-person permissions, and you are comfortable with the second-year price of the plan that has them.
Pick FlatStock if you are tracking tools, parts, stock or equipment, you have more than 500 items or expect to, and you want the price you sign up at to be the price you keep.
If something here is wrong
Sortly changes its page, and this one is only as good as the date at the top. If a number or a feature has moved, write to [email protected] and this page gets corrected and re-dated.
